Fun performance for next meeting

At our next branch social on Wednesday 16 July we’ll be joined by Alison Utting, a "Shropshire Lass" who will perform AGGIE - The Life and Adventures of Dame Agnes Hunt, adapted from her memoirs.

Agnes Hunt began writing her astounding life story to amuse Sir Robert Jones in his last illness; nothing less would have persuaded her to put pen to paper.

Crippled with multiple complex disabilities herself, she refused to let limitations of health or gender define her. Seen as ‘too young, and much too lame’ for the nursing profession, she was to go on to co-found one of the most prestigious hospitals in the world and establish the practice of orthopaedic nursing.

From Shropshire to Tasmania, follow Aggie’s adventures as Alison brings this incredible story to life. Scattered with enjoyable characters and almost-unbelievable events, this performance is one to remember.

We extend a warm welcome to all, of course (and that means members but also friends, carers, partners and anyone who supports Shrewsbury Parkinson's) and refreshments will be on hand. Parking is available and the Beaconsfield Club is fully accessible. Come along and make friends!

We ask for a donation for refreshments, but otherwise this chance to enjoy AGGIE is completely free!

Music fundraiser

Come along to our music night on Saturday 12 July, 7.30pm, at the Beaconsfield Club in Shrewsbury town centre, where Mike and Baz will play favourites from the 50s to the 80s. Tickets cost £5 in advance from committee members, or £6 on the door.

Generous shoppers boost branch funds

Shrewsbury chair Maggie Connell writes:

Wow — A warm and windy day to be standing outside a supermarket with a collection tin! Many thanks to all Aldi's very generous customers who donated a total of £575.00! A fantastic result which will go a long way to providing vital exercise classes and support groups to people with Parkinson's in the Shrewsbury area.

Thank you also to the friendly staff at Aldi (Oteley Road) and the volunteers from the Shrewsbury Parkinson's branch who took turns to help on 27th June. A great success!

New tech goes on sale

A device that aims to ease Parkinson’s symptoms is now available to buy in the UK.

The Beech Band is worn on the wrist and produces a tapping sensation that may help with speech issues, gait and anxiety.

Visit beechband.com to find out more.
