June 2026 | Outing to Attingham Park for the June social

Way back in January, three volunteers from the National Trust, came to visit the branch and told us all about the social prescribing Walks and Talks offered at Attingham Park. So, instead of meeting at the Beaconsfield Club in June, a group of over 20 of us met at Attingham and enjoying a gentle stroll round the beautiful grounds and house - some with the help of a "tramper" (mobility scooter).
Christine Greaves used to volunteer for the Trust and is therefore a mine of information about the place and - for the occasion - she and her husband Albert dressed in Regency style (as would (as would have been worn by the 2nd Lord Berwick in the 1811-1820 period) which were made by Christine herself.

21.05.26 | Charity quiz for Parkinson's Shrewsbury branch

Phil Shaw (a friend of Mike Ball) contacted me and offered to run a charity quiz for Shrewsbury Parkinson's. How kind! What could go wrong? Well, as the 21st May approached we wondered, have we sold enough tickets? Will anyone come? Do we have enough raffle prizes? All worries for nothing! Phil had to turn teams away! We had a raffle table groaning with great prizes! And the Peach Tree was packed!

Thanks to Phil and his wife Julie (scorer), the winning team Punk's Not Dead (who re-donated their prize), to Anna Bispham and her team at the Peach Tree, and of course everyone who came or helped! £890.83 was raised! to help with activities and therapies for people living with Parkinson's in the Shrewsbury area.

May 2026 | Alison Utting (a Shropshire Lass) returned to tell another tale of someone from Shropshire's history at the May social.

Those who heard her tell the story of "Aggie" - Dame Agnes Hunt, co-founder of the Gobowen hospital, were hungry to hear another tale.

And they weren't disappointed as, in Miss Plymley recollects - a Shropshire woman invited us to share her memories of a busy and fascinating life in Georgian and Regency Britain over her afternoon tea.

11.04.2026 | Songs for Spring at St Mary's Church on World Parkinson's Day

On Saturday 11th April (actual Parkinson's Day) a concert took place in St Mary's church in Shrewsbury - three local choirs sang acapella Songs for Spring. . Shrewsbury branch of Parkinson's UK had been nominated as the recipient of any donations made. The singing was beautiful ... the choirs included three of our members (Jane, Louise and Ruth – who made a speech about Parkinson’s) and the resulting donation was an extraordinary £1,012.66!

10.04.26 | World Parkinson's Day 2026

As every year, World Parkinson's Day is celebrated on 11th April - but our spot on Shrewsbury Square was taken on that day so we celebrated on Friday 10th April - met lots of people, talked about their friends and families and Parkinson's experiences and spread the word about the Shrewsbury branch. Oh, and the Mayor stopped by and temporarily looked about B the dog while having his photo taken
